Article:Former MLA’s brother assaults BSES officials

Three BSES Rajdhani Power officials were allegedly held captive and assaulted by some locals during a routine inspection in Kamruddin Nagar on Tuesday.

BSES officials alleged that the attack was led by Jagdev Shokeen, brother of ex-MLA Rambir Shokeen.

A senior police officer said that Jagdev has been named as the accused in the First Information Report (FIR) and his role in the incident is being probed.

The officials, including an assistant vice-president of the BSES, were freed from their brief captivity after the police’s intervention. “We arrested one person from the crime spot,” said the officer.

A BSES official said the inspection was being carried out in some pockets of west Delhi as those areas had been reporting an increase in power theft cases.

“The officials met the MLA from Mundka, Sukhbir Singh Dalal, and were returning to office when four persons arrived in a Hyundai Santro car. They said that the power officials were causing nuisance in the area and needed to be taught a lesson,” alleged a BSES official.

The group also forcibly marched the officials to a nearby room and held them captive there for sometime. An eyewitness called the police control room upon which a police team arrived to their rescue.

The three officials sustained injuries, but none of them are in a serious condition, said the police. A case of assault, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and obstructing public servant has been registered with the Nangloi police station.

A year ago, Jagdev had been booked for beating up two supporters of BJP leader Azad Singh in Nihal Vihar. His brother Rambir is named in an FIR filed under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after the arrest of his nephew and wanted criminal Neeraj Bawana earlier this year. The police had said that Bawana had named Rambir as his accomplice in several crimes.
